Acrylic on canvas. Finger Painted, brushwork. Varnished. Representational magical realism.

There are moments when a gaze becomes more than sight — when it becomes memory, wonder, recognition.

In this painting, a baby sits at the ocean’s floor, impossibly calm beneath the waves, staring up at a whale that has come close. The water glows around them. The whale hovers, still, watching the child. And the child, too young for fear, watches back.

This is not a scene of danger, but of remembering. Of meeting.

I have always believed some eyes don’t just look — they hold. They carry something older than speech, older than us. The whale’s gaze is not human, yet somehow more humane than we have managed to be. In her eye, there is no judgment. Only presence. Only memory. And something like mercy.

And the child open, naked, unguarded, might be what we once were. Or what we could still become.

I am an unwavering idealist.

There is always hope.
