Acrylic on canvas. Brushwork. Varnished. Representational magical realism.
A whale, suspended in ropes.
Carried not by the sea, but by a lone pelican, wings strained, sky heavy. Below, a cowboy on horseback takes aim, harpoon raised, eyes fixed.
The land is dry. The water, distant.
This is a painting of contradiction.
The sacred made absurd.
The burdened made predator.
The world, upside down.
Painted in Renaissance hues, this work holds its breath between myth and mourning. It is my surreal lament for what we hunt, and what we carry.
