The painting showcases the artist's youngest daughter, Lilli, as a child collecting toads for observation before releasing them back into the wild. This was inspired by the artist's own childhood fascination with nature and belief in her ability to telepathically communicate with all living beings and her own fascination and collection of amphibians and insects. Hessian was selected as the base material for all paintings depicting nostalgic or imaginative scenes due to its ability to soften and obscure intricate brushwork.
Brushwork. Synthetic polymer paint on hessian on birchwood canvas. The painting has been coated in a gloss gel isolation coat then coated in a synthetic polymer varnish. 12 by 12 inches (31.5 by 31.5cm).
